Reunited with our kit and the prospect of an 80+ mile ride to Fort Kochi, we set of full of hope for some fabulous scenery, we weren’t disappointed…….

The roads were well paved and the traffic fairly light and as the first 30 miles or so were downhill we made great progress, passing waterfalls..

Crossing bridges…

Cycling through villages…

And eventually stopping for lunch, a great Biryani and friendly hosts…..

We finally came of the downhill and had to start pedalling for real, fortunately the scenery continued to be fantastic and the miles were being reeled in quickly….

Although we were no longer cycling downhill we were on flat roads and still making good time, the outskirts of Kochi and Ernakulam soon came into view..

The area is famous for the “backwaters” and there are loads of bridges crossing them, fishing boats and nets add to the colourful scene…

We found a great little hotel in the tourist area and quickly settled in, laundry, bike maintenance, showers were all completed and we set of to do the tourist thing, from the local laundry….

So we’d finally reached the coast, it had been a while since we’d been able to dip our toes in the ocean so we were very 😉
After two good nights in Kochi we set of south along the coast road for Allepey, a fairly short ride along flat roads with great scenery….

Just as we were approaching Allepey a young man on a motorbike drew level with me and asked if we were looking for a room, of course we were and ended up following him, the hotel turned out to be on the beach…

The hotel was just what we needed, Wi Fi, comfy hammocks, great beach with soft sand and warm clean sea, clean tidy rooms and a friendly and helpful host, perfect !
We spent the afternoon catching up on email, uploading photos and blogs, of course we also indulged in a cold beer or two. We walked along the beach to a local restaurant for food before heading back to the hotel to watch the sunset….

Another stunning evening !!!
Well that’s enough for this blog, next time we head out on the Backwaters before heading back up the coast towards Goa 😉
Take care.
